2025 BUS SAFETY

Each school bus is DOT (Department of Transportation) safety checked annually by licensed mechanics. Daily pre-trip inspections of each vehicle by its licensed commercial driver ensure that all systems are safe and ready to go.

BUS DRIVERS AND STAFF

All drivers are safety-trained and experienced in their vehicle for city driving and on the Sunshine Canyon/Gold Hill mountain route. The full-size school buses are driven by licensed CDL Drivers who are members of our own staff. Three more staff members ride along to supervise, entertain, and interact with the campers.

Reserved Bus; Each camper always rides on the same bus in a compartmentalized seat in a segment of the bus reserved for their group. Each vehicle has an animal name and colored flag for easy identification. There are seating areas for up to three more groups of campers close in school grade level and usually in the same program.

Reserved Seat; Campers each have their own seat on their own bus. This reserves the seat for your camper and their personal belongings and also keeps the groups together.

There are usually two campers in the same group per seat. Each camper is paired with another camper from their group who is close in grade level and in the same program. Seating with a friend may be arranged when indicated on the registration form.

Bus Pod; Explorer Camper groups of seven to ten campers ride on their bus with another group or groups usually in their same program and close in grade level, forming a "Bus Pod.”  Groups of older campers - Focus Campers, Western Riders, CITs, and WITs - may all ride together on the same bus. Group arrangements on buses may reorganize week to week.

Personal Cubby; Each camper’s bus seat becomes their “personal cubby” for keeping their belongings separate from others. Once in Camp, buses are centrally parked and accessible throughout the day.

Air Circulation on Buses; The windows stay down for air circulation, to help stave off communicable disease.  Please be sure your camper brings layers of clothing to wear for warmth. Everyone needs a warm jacket every day, no matter how hot it is in Boulder!

TESTIMONIALS

I had a dream last night that I was at the ranch. I want to tell you what an impact you had in my life. I am so glad I was lucky enough to spend all those summers (10 in all!). It was family to me and a big part of the person I became. I remember it like it was yesterday: horseback riding, singing “sunshine on my shoulders” to Sunshine the horse. Dinner in the lodge, making lanyards, playing capture-the flag, overnights, talent shows, finding fool’s gold, cooking out at the lake. It was magical.
